Valneva Scotland announces year-long support for local cancer charity Team Jak
The company’s workforce will volunteer and fundraise for Team Jak throughout the year
Valneva Scotland has partnered with Team Jak, a West Lothian-headquartered charity focused on supporting children and young people with cancer.
The Livingston-based vaccine producer will provide year-long support to Team Jak, which offers emotional, social and practical support to patients aged zero to 25 years with cancer across Scotland, via sponsorship at West Lothian Chamber of Commerce.
Team Jak will gain access to a range of additional support through the Chamber, with Valneva Scotland’s workforce set to volunteer and fundraise for the charity throughout the year.
The charity will also be able to attend the Chamber’s member events free of charge, increasing its ability to form partnerships with local businesses.
Greig Rooney, Managing Director at Valneva Scotland, said: “Team Jak does incredible work for young people and their families impacted by cancer, and the whole team at Valneva Scotland is proud to be supporting its mission… We want to continue to give back and help improve our local communities by playing an active role in championing charities and causes which really matter to our employees.”
The partnership comes after 30 volunteers from Valneva took part in a revamp of Team Jak’s headquarters in 2023. The effort made the space into a more welcoming environment for those who rely on the charity’s services, which include music therapy, counselling and activity days.
Team Jak’s Chief Executive, Allison Barr, said: “Our services are a crucial lifeline for young people and their families during what is often the most challenging period of their lives, providing comfort and helping young people feel less alone on their journey… The support of organisations like Valneva allows us to offer more compassionate care and ongoing support, ensuring young people and their families do not face these challenges alone.”
