THE STARS, SOMETIMES, are just like us. Jason Kelce has made waves to start the 2024 NFL season, as his debut on ESPN’s Monday Night Football immediately infused the network’s flagship football broadcast with a jolt of energy. But there was one problem—the 6-time All-Pro center forgot his travel bag, and so he had to wear a shirt on air that he bought just a bit earlier at a nearby mall. And, well, it wasn’t a perfect fit.

“It fits my belly now,” he said on the broadcast, alluding to the weight he’s already lost in the months since officially calling a cap on his future-Hall of Fame NFL career. “I’ve lost a little bit of weight, but my tits are still struggling.”

The moment—and Jason’s a-little-bit-too-small shirt—made for quite a fun moment online, as jokes were made, memes were shared, and laughs were had. And those of us reading and watching weren’t the only ones laughing—Jason’s brother, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, and his girlfriend, music superstar Taylor Swift, were apparently watching at home and laughing along.

“Me and Taylor were watching that absolutely dying laughing at it,” Travis said on the September 11th episode of New Heights, the podcast both Kelce brothers host together. “It was the perfect thing to open everybody up to what they were gonna experience for the next 18 weeks.”

He also asked an important question that the brothers would go on to discuss: “First of all, do we think this is the first time ‘tits’ has been said on ESPN?”

Jason wasn’t sure. “‘Tits’ is a funny word, because I think it’s allowable—like, it’s not against the rules to say it on a broadcast—but it’s definitely something that you wouldn’t typically say on a broadcast.”

This was not the first time Travis chimed in on Jason’s shirt fiasco. During the broadcast—while he was apparently watching with Swift—he took to X/Twitter, saying “Surprised he bought a new one and didn’t just go shirtless.”

“Those buttons were holding on by the thread,” Travis added on the podcast. “They were,” Jason acknowledged, also adding later that he, like anyone, felt the nerves of his first time.

“I did not feel prepared, I felt nervous, I didn’t know what to expect,” he said. “And then you realize that you were prepared, and ESPN did a great job of setting everything up, and that you’re on set, thankfully for me, with three other guys who have done it a bunch.”

We’ll see how Jason’s broadcasting career evolves (and his wardrobe as well) as he continues with his weekly role on ESPN’s Monday Night Football broadcast.
