WHEN YOU’RE AS famous as Tom Holland is—he’s played Spider-Man in six Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, led his own Pixar film in Onward, and is currently in a romantic relationship with another superstar, Zendaya—it’s probably a little difficult to go through life without being recognized. In a new Men’s Health cover story, the 28-year-old British actor talked about why he mostly avoids public events, outside of Zendaya’s movie premieres (though he doesn’t typically walk the red carpet with her “because it’s not my moment, it’s her moment, and if we go together, it’s about us,” he says).
But that doesn’t mean he skips out on some of the basic, vital things in life. That’s right, folks—Tom Holland does indeed go shopping for groceries. And, as it turns out, during a recent trip to a Whole Foods in Los Angeles, Peter Parker himself got a chance to play the hero, and, of course, wound up getting recognized in the aftermath.
It started when two completely random men started fighting, and he happened to be in close proximity. “They’re like going at it, right behind me,” Holland says, before adding that he got into the mix and pulled one of them away. “I can see that he’s recognized me immediately, and you could see the wheels turning, like, I’m really angry, but Spider-Man is telling me to calm down. So, yeah, I go to the supermarket.”
Holland was laughing as he told the story; clearly he sees the absurdity and humor of just how famous he’s become, and how it can come into play in the most unexpected, wildest situations.
Marvel’s beloved web-slinger will return in the upcoming Spider-Man 4, with Holland still taking on the leading titular role; it’s unknown as of now whether or not a multiversal trip to Whole Foods will figure into the plot.
