ANOTHER VISIT TO the illustrious and luxurious White Lotus resort—and season of HBO’s semi-anthology series The White Lotus—has concluded, complete with all the fun and fireworks we’ve come to expect. Season 3 took the events to Thailand for the show’s longest season yet (8 episodes, compared to 7 for season 2, and 6 for season 1), and came complete with an ambitious, expansive story, and, of course, a ton more of those nuanced, chaotic, and often hilarious characters that we love so much.
There are many themes constantly present throughout The White Lotus: the constant presence of privilege (and often overindulgence) among the guest characters; the striving for more among the characters who are part of the resort’s staff. But above all else, what makes The White Lotus so fun, and entertaining to watch is that it’s just well-written, well put together television. The story lets us know from the very beginning that it’s headed somewhere (and it’s on you, the viewer, to remember that).
Perhaps most importantly, though, this is a show (and a creator) who recognizes that people contain multitudes. Hardly anyone is just good, or just bad. Disagreement on one thing could lead to a bond on something else. People have layers, and, while The White Lotus certainly likes to make fun of some of those layers, it has a deep respect for some others as well. We’re thankful that the show will return and continue to explore all of that.
Here’s what we know about the upcoming season 4 of The White Lotus.
Will The White Lotus have a season 4?
Yes! The White Lotus got renewed for a fourth season by HBO back in January. There will be another vacation.
Where will The White Lotus season 4 take place?
That remains a mystery. But we have some hints and ideas.
While many fans have suggested that a cold-weather location, such as Aspen, could be a fun change of pace, it would seem extremely unlikely. In an appearance on The Bill Simmons Podcast, producer David Bernad explained why a Winter-y White Lotus season is such a long shot.
“[Creator] Mike [White] does not like the cold, that is why we will never do it,” he said. “I feel confident we will never do a season in the cold... Mike is not for it. He is a California guy. He is not built for the cold. Never say never, but I would be surprised.”
There are rumors that the next season could be shot in Norway, or Mexico or Morocco, but the reality is that at this point we don’t know for sure.
One thing we do know though? Or, at least, one thing that would seem very, very likely, is that season 4 would be filmed at a Four Seasons resort, as the first three seasons all have already. The White Lotus season 1 was shot at the Four Seasons Resort Maui at Wailea, and season 2 was then filmed at San Domenico Palace, Taormina, A Four Seasons Hotel. Before season 3, HBO and Four Seasons made their relationship official, and then filmed season 3 at the Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui.
So if you really want to do some detective work, just take a look at the list of Four Seasons properties. The answer is likely on there!
When will The White Lotus season 4 come out?
We don’t know for sure yet. But given that season 1 came out in summer of 2021, season 2 came out in the fall of 2022, and season 3 came out in early 2025, it feels safe to say that The White Lotus generally takes around a year and a half to two years and change between seasons. So could we pencil in fall 2026? That feels about right.
Who will be in The White Lotus season 4 cast?
We can’t say at all just yet. But one fun idea that’s been teased through the years has recently come to the forefront again: a White Lotus All-Stars season that brings back some favorites from past seasons.
“I’ve heard rumors of them doing an all-star season,” Patrick Schwarzenegger, who plays Saxon in the show’s third season, said in a recent Hollywood Reporter story. White, who was there as well for the interview, chimed in: “I’d love to do that.”
Doesn’t sound like it was exactly top of mind, but wouldn’t that be fun?
Schwarzenegger continued with the idea. “They could get all the douche guys in one hotel together,” he said. “Mike said that one day when we were on set, he was like, ‘Oh my God, it’d be so good to get you, Jake Lacy, and Theo James in the same room.”
Casey Bloys, who is the CEO of HBO, added his own idea: “Maybe Molly Shannon’s character and Victoria Ratliff know each other? There are so many connections between all these awful people.”
It wouldn’t be that far off from what the show has done in the past. While most The White Lotus storylines stand alone in their given seasons, we’ve also seen a few characters resurface: Jennifer Coolidge’s Tanya was in seasons 1 and 2, Natasha Rothwell’s Belinda was in seasons 1 and 3, and Jon Gries’s Greg was in all three. Greg, Belinda, and Tanya’s storyline is a major factor in season 3, so continuing to build out other storylines as the show continues is one avenue Mike White could certainly go down.
