Philips Norelco Bodygroom Series 7000 Review: A Body Grooming Double Whammy

GROOMING IS RARELY one size fits all, and body grooming certainly follows this trend. Just like how much hair covers your body, how you want it to look is an entirely personal experience (similar to how much you choose to trim your beard). On top of that, body hair trends ebb and flow—one day you might want to be smooth as a dolphin from head to toe and then next you may want to let your natural fur go wild. And not to beat a dead horse here, but you may also want your hair to be different lengths on various parts of your body. Usually, this takes multiple devices or trimmers to achieve, but not with the Philips Norelco Bodygroom Series 7000.

Personally, I leave my chest hair fairly long and trim or shave other areas of my body. You get the idea—body grooming is a journey, not a fixed state so chances are, if you’re in the body grooming game, you probably have multiple tools you use based on what look you’re going for. However, using more than one tool to do one job can be clunky, complicated, and time-consuming. This is where the Series 7000 truly shines, which is why we declared it our best body shaver and trimmer combo after years of testing.
This handy groomer is double-sided, with a trimmer head at one end and a foil shaver at the other. Unlike many other groomers, which either don’t have a shaver attachment at all or require you to switch it out yourself, this groomer allows you to switch seamlessly between trimming and shaving with just the push of a button. Its simple design is minimal on the bells and whistles, which is sometimes to its detriment, but mostly the simplicity allows this groomer to intuitively get the job done on nearly every area of your body quickly and easily.
Not for nothing, but the first person to ever recommend this groomer to me was a professional body hair artist (yes, those exist), which definitely speaks to the capabilities of the tool. When I tried it myself, it did not disappoint, and though it may fall behind in some areas compared to other body groomers I have used, it’s still something I reach for on a regular basis during my grooming sessions. The lesson here: trust the professionals.
Design and Features
The most unique feature of the Philips Norelco Bodygroom Series 7000 is the double-edged design. At one end you’ll find a trimmer, with an attachable length guard that’s able to adjust to five different lengths ranging from 3mm to 11mm (it’s also removable so you can use the trimmer directly on skin if you want). On the other end is a foil shaver head which gives a smooth, close-shaved appearance. The rest of the design is simple. There is a single button in the middle that allows you to turn on either the trimmer or shaver, but never both at the same time (be careful though, sometimes you can hit the button while you’re holding it and accidentally turn on the wrong side).
All the other features are internal and work together to make the grooming process easier. On the shaver side, the head pivots (the brand calls it 4D, which means it can pivot in four different directions) so it hugs the curves of your body well. It also is designed to be gentle on skin and minimize nicks and cuts. On the trimmer end, the blades are self-sharpening stainless steel, meaning you don’t need to use blade oil to keep them sharp and effective.

The entire device is waterproof, which not only makes it easy to clean, but also means you can use it in the shower if you so desire. The lithium-ion battery can power the device for up to 80 minutes on a single charge (which takes about an hour). Other than that, the Bodygroom is a straightforward trimmer with few bells and whistles, but if you’re a regular reader of our reviews, you’ll know we don’t view that as a bad thing.
Effectiveness
I can see why the Philips Norelco Bodygroom was recommended by a professional. Overall, it’s one of the easiest-to-use body grooming devices I’ve used to achieve a truly customized look. On the trimmer side, it’s able to cut through thicker areas of hair just as easily as sparser areas. I’ve used it on every part of my body from the neck down and found that while I may need to go over some areas multiple times, especially when using the length attachment, it’s still quick and effective. Some users may find that the limited number of length settings leaves something to be desired, but personally I didn’t miss having more options.
The five length settings available with the attachment are pretty much what I use on any trimmer so I didn’t miss having more. The longest length is 11mm, which is about half an inch, and I personally rarely leave my hair longer than that when trimming (if I want it longer, I just don’t trim it), though some users who like a longer length may miss having that option.
When used without the length attachment, the trimmer cuts hair close to the skin while still leaving the slightest hint of stubble. This is also standard with pretty much any trimmer of this kind. I did find that, while the blades are designed to be gentle on skin, you may want to be extra careful on especially sensitive areas as they can still nick or cut your skin if you go too quickly or press too hard.
On the (literal) flip side, the foil shaver is really great. Used just like the foil shavers you use on your face, it is effective at completely shaving hair and leaving skin with a completely smooth, baby-soft appearance and feel. I’ve found that the best way to approach it is to use the trimmer side to cut hair down to the skin and then flip the device to use the foil shaver to finish the job. The shaver is highly effective, but if you have longer stubble you run a higher risk of pulling and nicking. Plus, you may need to go over the same area multiple times which also increases your risk of irritation.
When used on closely-trimmed hair, however, I have not experienced any post-shave irritation whatsoever. I have not used this in the shower, though you can if you want to because the same professional who originally recommended the Bodygroom to me also advised me to apply some baby powder to my body before trimming or shaving. This helps to soak up excess moisture but also plumps the hair, making it easier and more comfortable to cut. I’ve used this technique every time I’ve used the Bodygroom and it enhances the effectiveness.

Value
Priced at $70, the Philips Norelco Bodygroom Series 7000 is solidly a mid-range trimmer—at least from a price perspective. It lacks some of the more techy bells and whistles that more expensive, luxury trimmers have that drive up the price, but I found that from a user standpoint, it grooms just as well as other trimmers double or triple the price. Plus, with the combination of a trimmer and foil shaver, you get basically two devices in one which makes it an incredible value, especially if you typically use multiple tools to groom your body hair.
How To Clean
Since the Philips Norelco Bodygroom 7000 is fully waterproof, cleaning it is easy. To clean the trimmer side, simply hold it under running water to wash away clippings. I typically turn it on for about 30 seconds after holding it under the water. On the foil shaver side, the tip of the shaver head pops off so you can run both the head and the inside under running water as well. I like to let it dry completely before popping the head back on.
Final Verdict: Should You Buy the Philips Norelco Bodygroom Series 7000?
If you’re the type of guy who likes a truly customized body grooming experience and likes to both trim and shave parts of his body, then the Philips Norelco Bodygroom Series 7000 is one of the best options I’ve found. It’s effective, easy to use and the dual-sided design combines multiple tools into one simple package. Sure, it’s lacking a few bells and whistles that other trimmers have, but at the price point, it’s an incredible value for pretty much every guy and every look.
