People Are Calling 2024 Olympics Turkish Sharpshooter Yusuf Dikec ‘The Real John Wick’

KNOWN AS THE “John Wick” of the Olympics, 51-year-old Turkish shooter Yusuf Dikec is going viral for his performance in the mixed pairs 10-meter air pistol event at the 2024 games. He represented Turkey in the event, in which he took home a silver medal for his country. Dikec’s performance is going viral on social media platforms like X because of his laid-back approach to such a high-stakes event.

The comparison is drawn to the John Wick film series, which follows the titular character (as played by Keanu Reeves) as a retired killer who reluctantly returns to a high-stakes world of violence and corruption in order to avenge his late wife and the dog she gifted him before her death. The series has thus far included four feature films and a prequel series that aired on Peacock called The Contenintal. Next year, a spinoff film titled Ballerina (starring Ana de Armas) will hit theaters.

Unlike Dikec’s other competitors, who wore specialized equipment like glasses and ear protection to aim at their targets, he stood with one hand in his pocket and very casually shot, winning second place in the event.

In an interview with a Turkish media outlet, Dikec justified his lack of use of special equipment: “I did not need special equipment. I’m a natural, a natural shooter,” Dikec is quoted as saying according to Milat Gazetesi.
