LONGEVITY IS SOMETHING prominent in the mind of every major celebrity, and George Clooney is no different. The actor, who is starring alongside his old Ocean’s Eleven and Burn After Reading castmate Brad Pitt in the upcoming thriller-comedy Wolfs, spoke on the matter and how he took a recent comment from legendary director Quentin Tarantino as a diss.

“Quentin said some shit about me recently, so I’m a little irritated by him,” the 63-year-old star said in the GQ cover story. He did some interviews where he was naming movie stars, and he was talking about [Pitt] and somebody else. Then this [interviewer] goes, ‘Well, what about George?’ He goes, ‘He’s not a movie star.’ And then he literally said something like, ‘Name me a movie since the millennium.’”

Clooney continued: “And I was like, ‘Since the millennium?’ That’s kind of my whole fucking career.”

The actor, who has been seen on screens since the ’80s but really blew up in the ’90s after a great television run on ER, has proven just by his sheer persona and presence that he’s got staying power. From starring in The Perfect Storm in 2000 to the Ocean’s trilogy, to his 2013 performance in Gravity and his surprise return appearance as Bruce Wayne in 2023’s The Flash, the star has demonstrated his versatility and longevity as a lead actor in Hollywood.

“So now I’m like, all right, dude, fuck off. I don’t mind giving him shit,” Clooney said. “He gave me shit. But no, look, we’re really lucky we got to work with these great directors. Director and screenplay are what keep you alive.”

(Business Insider and IndieWire are among other outlets who couldn’t find Tarantino’s comments that Clooney was referring to; we couldn’t find them either. But surely someone will dig the source of this up?)

Wolfs premieres on September 20, 2024, and will stream afterwards on Apple TV+.
