WHILE YELLOWSTONE JUST might be starting its final bow, there’s no need to worry—because your next Taylor Sheridan-produced obsession has just arrived. Landman, starring Billy Bob Thornton, Demi Moore, and Jon Hamm, has finally debuted on Paramount+ and its just the kind of drama-filled, increasingly high-stakes, ego-driven thriller that you’ve been looking for.
Based on the Texas Monthly-produced podcast Boomtown, Landman is set in the West Texas world of oil rigs, and how their presence effects everyone—not only the workers, managers, and business people in the local communities, but on a larger, broader scale as well. The show explores the struggles within that world at all different levels, and how the many conflicts that arise can significantly impact characters we meet of all different worlds and ambitions. And, given that this is a Taylor Sheridan show, we can be sure there’s going to be a good bit of violence and tension involved as well.
It’s an interesting enough story and concept just on its own, but it’s the people involved that make Landman a must-see. Obviously, Taylor Sheridan has become one of the hardest-working men on TV, with the entire Yellowstone universe under his belt to go along with shows like Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, andLawmen: Bass Reeves. But it’s also worth remembering that Sheridan is a wildly acclaimed, Academy Award-nominated scribe when he steps out of those worlds as well; he’s done tremendous work with the neo-western films Sicario, Hell or High Water, and Wind River, and it seems like Landman could very well follow in those footsteps.
And then there’s the cast as well. Landman is headlined by Billy Bob Thornton and Jon Hamm, two tremendous actors who everyone reading this certainly is familiar with and who always deliver in a major way. They’re joined by Demi Moore, herself having a moment on the heels of her transcendent performance in The Substance, one of the most significant body horror films to come along in years. Other familiar names and faces like Michael Peña, Ali Larter, and Andy Garcia are part of the cast as well.
Sound good? Yeah, we agree—all-in. Landman, which features 10 episodes, each written by Sheridan, is one of his most ambitious and exciting projects to come along in years, and has a great cast and great source material to match.
You won’t want to miss a minute of this one—and you won’t, if you keep reading the information below.
